VIR-US

app prototype / 2021

VIR-US app is a unified source of information on government measures, data and events related to the COVID-19 pandemic in Slovenia, which informs the user based on their personal preferences.

I created the app prototype as a part of a semester project titled “Normal life”. My task was to research how to address the problem of distrust in science during the late 2020 period of the pandemic.

My target group were people who’s distrust in science was caused by specific circumstances of the pandemic; In Slovenia, there was a lot of distrust in official government communication because of its inconsistency and the quick pace at which the Covid restrictions were changing. After researching social media discourses and official government communications, I decided to develop an informational system, which could function as a single source of information, and would, in a personalised way, inform the user about (at the time) current political and health-related updates.

The app content is categorised into three groups: science-related: “podatki in cepljenje” (data and vaccination), and political; “ukrepi” (restrictions).
The name VIR-US was chosen as "vir" in Slovenian means source.
