The represented plant species are enlisted on a so-called Red list, a grading scale of endangerment. Each 3 page spread is dedicated to a single species. There, the reader can first read the description, but the illustration is "hidden", representing the rareness and fragility of the plants.

Less endangered species are at the beginning of the book, represented by more vibrant shades of green. As the reader approaches more endangered species, the background becomes lighter, and the text and illustrations are harder to distinguish, representing the disappearance of the plants from their natural habitat.
